ME AND...
2011
Presented at Wimbledon College of Art Theatre, London.
This project was the result of my experience of living abroad between May 2010 and September 2011. Other projects were developed during this period, including some in Berlin where I was living for six months. However, “Me and...” is the most comprehensive project from my stay out of the country.
The invited artists crossed my life at specific times of this 'journey', and somehow caused a shift in my perception of art.
So I invited them to share their ideas in this event I organized and presented in London.
I will now describe the moment I established contact with each one of the artists and what has encouraged me to invite them.
Me and... Stefan Riebel
Waiting
In Berlin, I had the pleasure to attend to the performance “I am here because you are here” from Stefan Riebel, presented at the event “Men Only”.
Stefan wrote on the wall, in a delicate manner, using very small letters, ‘I am here because you are here’, forcing the audience to get up from their seats and walk close to the wall to read what was written.
The simplicity and humour of this action was fascinating to me, so I decided to invite him for a collaboration.
For Me and... we were sitting in the audience, waiting for 11 minutes.

Me and... Alex Kovacs
At Harrods
At the event “Push and Pull” (presented at the Tate Modern), during the performance by the artists Andrea Geyer and Josiah McElheny, a member from the audience decided to break the silence and make a comment in a loud voice about the concept of revolution. This member was Alex Kovacs, to whom I started to talk after the performance to discuss his intervention. I discovered that he was a writer, so after reading some of his pieces, I selected the poem “At Harrods” for our collaboration. We went to Harrods to take photographs of some of the objects mentioned in his poem and afterwards I made paintings of those objects. Whilst Alex read his poem referring to the price of each article, I was showing the paintings.
In the end, we agreed that Harrods is a strange and fascinating place.

Me and... BBB Johannes Deimlin
Not yet defined
In between the several complicities in our artistic practice, chalk is a material of expression wherewith we both have a strong relation. The chalk was the prevailing material in my first performative projects.
Johannes also used chalk in numerous performances. When we met in Berlin, during a performance festival, we had a long conversation about the meaning of chalk in art, performance and life.
It was obvious for us that we would have to collaborate in a performance, using chalk.
In “Not Yet Defined”, Johannes only unveiled the idea two hours before the performance presentation. It was a colaboration with the purpose of being a surprise for me. Through our artistic friendship, we played together with chalk in a childish freedom and an adult consciousness.

Me and... Simon Vincenzi and Fleur Despointes
Me and... another infinite night
Both characters in this performance first met at the Barbican.
After being invited by Simon Vincenzi to be part of his piece ‘Naked Singularity’, and because I felt close to his artistic views, I asked him if he would like to collaborate with me.
He asked me to write a text about the character that I had originally created for his piece. After I sent him the text, he replied with a section from the book ‘The Perfect Crime’ (1995) by Jean Baudrillard, entitled ‘The Revenge of the Mirror People’. This performance was created through the relation between both texts.
The visual artist Fleur Despointes, was the personification of the ‘Black Hole’, dressed entirely in black and carrying a black circle which had a video camera incorporated.
For this collaboration I proposed to Simon that his presence in my performance would be ideological rather than physical.

‘Me and...’ is simultaneously a project of fragmentation and aggregation of identity. It was the meeting of several artistic personalities that merged with my identity, dividing and multiplying it, transforming it into a diffused chameleon.
